Down and Definitely Out

David Bowie - Life on Mars?

This picture was forwarded to me with the heading, "India-Pakistan Unity At Last" before the fatal India-Sri Lanka game last Friday.

The first World Cup match I watched was the 1996 India-Pakistan Quarter-Final. India batted first, and despite an early batting collapse (which still pales in comparison to the shambles we were against Bangladesh and Sri Lanka) rallied to post 287, and beat Pakistan by 39 runs. It was exciting, involving Cricket and it made me a fan for life.

This year, there's going to be no perching on the edge of the couch, no yelling "Howzat?" in unison with the bowler, no groaning "What is wrong with the Umpire?" - there's not going to be a World Cup, because India's going home early.

On top of that, a man's been murdered.

What is wrong with this World Cup?

The problem with the Indian team is that they decided to go with old average players instead of young, talented ones. How else do you explain the presence of Ajit Agarkar on the team?
Oh, and Sehwag's century against that cricket powerhouse Bermuda will guarantee a spot on the team for him for atleast the next two years, and why not? When you think of people who play better than him yet don't make the squad, only 10-15 names come to mind.

SERIOUSLY.

When was the last time Tendulkar was on form, anyway?

And I'm still pissed they left Sreeshant out of all three matches.

The last time Tendulkar was in form? That's easy. The last time he had an individual record to chase. But rather than dump him for a real game-winner like VVS Laxman, we continue to take him.
I bet you, if there was an individual accomplishment he could've gotten from this World Cup, like most career ODI runs or something, he'd have been hitting double-centureis every match. As it stands, he was just bored.

funniest part? dude now has a comic book based on him.

Or atleast he did have one planned, before the WC debacle. Don't know how many ppl will want to buy it now, though.

Yeah I remember that spectacular match.

I'd buy that comic just to wipe my ass with it.
